April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day Festival marks the launch of Turkish Grand National Assembly, and the day was dedicated to the children of the world by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey. Organized by TRT since 1979 “TRT International April 23 Children’s Day Festival” is the first and only festival for children celebrated at an international level.

When the United Nations declared 1979 as the Year of the Child, TRT came up with a project to embrace all children of the world, and upon approval of the project first ever TRT International April 23 Children’s Day Festival was held in Ankara with the participation of 5 countries (USSR, Iraq, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria).

TRT International April 23 Children’s Day Festival is aimed at contributing to the making of a peaceful world for children of the world, where they can live as brothers and sisters with love and friendship. Under the guidance of the principle “PEACE AT HOME, PEACE IN THE WORLD”, TRT April 23 International Children’s Day Festival is celebrated every year with the participation of about 40 countries in average.

In 39 years, about 30 thousand children from 150 countries took part in the festival. It was held in capital Ankara from 1979 to 2000 and later it was held in different cities of Turkey like İstanbul, Antalya, İzmir, Bursa, Konya, Gaziantep, and Nevşehir.

 

40th TRT INTERNATIONAL APRIL 23 CHILDREN’S DAY FESTIVAL

40th International April 23 Children’s Day Festival will be held in Bursa with various activities and the participation of about 800 children from 40 countries. Besides guest children about 150 group leaders and 30 press members will be hosted in Bursa during the festival. With great support from government-private institutions, particularly from Bursa Governor and Metropolitan Mayor, efforts are underway for the festival.

Guest children, who are coming in to share the joy and happiness of this special festival, will be hosted in the homes of “fellow children” that are meticulously determined by Bursa Governorship and Provincial National Education Directorate to give these children a chance to get to know our culture and country. Group leaders will be hosted in a hotel in the city along with guides dedicated to each group.

During the festival that will start on April 15 2018 and last for about 15 days, Bursa official visits, various concerts, April 23 Gala Show, street performances of countries, sightseeing tours, sports and play activities, TRT Folk Dances Show, picnic, official visits in Ankara and a visit to Great Leader Atatürk’s eternal resting place –Atatürk’s Mausoleum will be organized.

“Gala Special” program, in which all guest children will perform their acts with special themes and choreographies will surely be a stunning audio-visual show, adding more flame to the festival joy of the children. This entire program will be broadcast free-to-air via satellite and meet audiences in many countries live on TRT Çocuk and other TRT channels.
